Finally clicking

After doing all the buttons I started to figure out ways in which I could make them work, but I got stuck several times and when I was about to give it up, Jason taught me how to make the buttons work! Now I just need to add the images of the inside of the places, so it's gonna be possible to have an idea on how the website is going to work and look like. Unfortunately, the time given to do the whole thing is too short and the I lack ability when using flash as I spend a lot of time to do one simple thing. However, as practice leads to perfection I intend to keep working with flash for the rest of my life and soon this project will be finished and ready to be hosted @ the Interenet! Above it is possible to see the most recent advance of my portfolio website! Thanks Jason for sharing your flash experience with me and thanks to all the others for making this course very pleasant to me! See ya!

Adding Buttons

As soon as I finished painting some of the sections I tried to make the buttons work when running the mouse over each element, it took some time, but it finally worked! It is really good when you spend some time trying to do something in flash and it ends up working, but when it doesn't work I get very angry, but little by little I'm adding the buttons and I just need to know how to make them work! I think I will be able to do the basic structure until the end of the course, but the whole website it's gonna be very difficult to finish as I'm thinking about creating little stories in each place of the city when the person clicks and get into them! Above you can see the buttons working!

Enhancing

Until now I have done a lot in terms of enhancements, but I have no idea on how I'm gonna add the buttons, I'm gonna need some guidance from Jason to do this! But I have already started painting each element separetely and it's getting better more and more! Above it is possible to see what is happening to each section of the image!

The Beginning

Well, now I have already started painting the image to bring some life to it. At first I was thinking of painting the whole city, including the buildings and houses and then point out each one by making it bolder or highlighting it, but as Jason suggested that it would more interesting to enjoy the artistic aspect of the traces contained by the handdrawn stuff of buildings and houses I think I will do this way: keep the traces on buldings and houses as weel as other stuffs in the city and when the viewer runs the mouse over it the colour comes! Visually it is going to be better like this!

The Practice

After trying many possibilities drawing a town I got to a good result as I am horrible to draw perspectives! I spent one day and a half to finally have the basis of my website that you can see above! Nevertheless, it is gonna be easier to work on it!

Project Seed

Portfolio Project for Creative Interactivity

Idea 1

The development of a website in which is possible to find various ideas about businesses, campaigns and media plans. It consists in selling ideas to individuals or companies who are looking for alternative ways to increase sales or start successful businesses. Instead of creating one more website where is possible to find relevant information about advertising, products and campaign strategies, it would be more creative and interesting to do an agency of ideas, where it is possible to find various ideas with regard to the development of campaign concepts or new businesses’ concepts. The agency name is going to be ‘Factory of Ideas’ and the customer will be able to find only starting points for their businesses or campaigns. On the other hand, if this customer wishes to take a deeper look into what a certain idea could bring to a current or future business, this customer will find out that is possible to buy the idea with an exclusive personalised plan.

Idea 2

Building a website which contains a certain theme and the navigation through the website happens as the viewer clicks individual objects which compose the whole thing. Some examples could be: aquarium, forest, suburb, house, pub, stadium, building, downtown, park, etc…As the viewer navigates through the website, he finds out new places which contain an issue, a campaign or a simple work as well as information about the producers, their concepts and previous works.

Idea 3

Building a website which is actually an ocean and the viewer can choose between waves or currents he/she can get in order to find relevant information about campaigns, clients, producers and creativity.

In order to develop more the concept of my website I decided that I will combine the three ideas above to do this!

Good Example of an Agency Website

To have ideas to create my portfolio website I've been looking at heaps of websites and in some of them I can extract ideas to create mine! I don't how it's gonna be in terms of structure or even in terms of creativity, but one thing I'm sure, it needs to be very creative and clean, without lots of information that make the viewer confused! Africa is one of the best Brazilian agencies nowadays and it has some of the clients of the Brazilian market of Advertising and there's one extreme thing that they priorise in the website: simplicity! If I want to have feedback I have to be simple and creative while doing my website and I will inspire myself on this simplicity to make my portfolio website effective!

Animation Websites

Good stuff can be found in the website below! They pick the best ads using animation around the world so people can vote for the best of the best ones! It has a lot of content and it is updated every week! Regarding that I have to do my portfolio website, I am looking at the best stuffs in terms of animation to create it! As far as I am concerned with this, I've been seing a lot of creative things done with a lot of perfection! I don't if I will be able to reach that level, but I try my best to do it! As I am beginner in flash I don't think I will be able to do something so perfect, so I will try to explore more the creativity in my portfolio website than the perfection!

Excellent Ad!

There are great ads and excellent ads using animation. This ad entitled 'Fighting for Kisses' made for wilkinson razors is one of them! During the trailer shown it is possible to see a family relationship from the skin softness viewpoint! After seeing an ad on the paper a father finds out why the baby is always with the mom and then he starts to use the product in order to improve his skin softness changing the scenario: now his wife is always with him, making the baby feel jealous, then it is possible to see that the baby becomes angry and he starts a series of training which was perfectly done through animation. The ad finishes with the baby kicking the door down while his dad is shaving. It's worth to check!

Drawing with the light

The possibility of drawing with the light is something I have never thought before in terms of creativity. In those pictures, this guy uses a digital camera that has a resource that enabled him to draw with the light on the screen! That's a good way to work the interactivity in animation or even in artistic events! Light tracing is a technique that I would like to use in future assignments or independent works!

That hurts!

That's why some players end up getting hurt, they go too greedy towards the ball without realising that there are other people playing! In this picture, can you guess what happened to the guy flying over the other's shoulder?

The first assignment

This animation was very simple, but it took some time to do as I am not very good at playing with flash, but since the beginning I knew I wanted to do something funny and creative in order to make my viewer laugh. As soccer is the most popular sport in the world and Brazilian soccer players are also very popular I decided that putting stick men on the screen explaining and playing soccer would be a very suitable decision to do what I wanted. Interactivity? Well, until now I have difficulties to add buttons in my animations and for this assignment it was not possible to do that as I think interaction can happen in many different levels like entertainment and critics done by my classmates. I think the result was pretty good for someone who had never used flash before and I hope everyone enjoyed it! As some of them might have thought that I used violence to make people laugh that was not my intention. Actually I wanted to portray why violence happens in soccer, because some players normally get pissed when the other tries to humiliate by doing tricks with the ball and how the tricks started to appear in soccer while other players tried to prevent the attack by kicking the others' legs. However I think that it is not that true as soccer players have improved a lot as human beings over the years!

Soccer in Slums

The inspiration for my first assignment comes from a very peculiar aspect of my own culture: the clever soccer played in slums where most of the famous Brazilian soccer players came from. The reason why I chose this theme is that it would be easier for me to do something in flash as I'm not very familiar with the software and I think that it would be interesting for everyone to know a little bit of the soccer history and how the reality of the soccer in Brazil is. In many aspects it was possible to portray happenings that are very common in the soccer scope like tricks with the ball and fair play. In my animation it is possible to see a narrative being developed by my character while two boys play soccer cleverly, showing some of those happenings I mentioned above!

Animation Websites

Aardman animation is a good website to be explored. There are some good examples of narratives with animations. Along the webpage it is possible to find some good tales and stories of weird characters. I tried to use the technique of developing a funny narrative in my first assignment based on some examples that can be found there, there are many interesting things contained in funny narratives and the interactivity can be built just by making the viewer laugh. Navigate through it and you will have an idea of what I'm talking about!

First Task in Class

In the first given task we should pick an object and make multiple associationsn with it, trying to make it interactive. It was hard to figure out a good one, but after thinking for some time I realized that a bag multi use would be the most suitable one because it tells a lot of stories and it goes to alot of places every single day. Here are some of the associations I did:

- it stores a lot of different items
- can be used for school, trip and work
- it stinks when putting dirty clothes and food
- it is extremely necessary for all assignments
- books are the most valuable items carried in
- sometimes heavy, sometimes light
- beers are the second most valuable items
- it is very useful for sports practicing
- most of the clothes from the wardrobe have already got in there
- it is useful to carry big stuffs on the outside like a skate or a jumper

Some important descriptions of my associations:

Can be used for different purposes (uni, trip, work)

Bags have always been used by many different people with many different objectives. When I talk about bags, I remember my childhood when I used to carry my bag with notebooks and many coloured pencils inside. I hated to see many other children doing the same as me and it was even worse when they owned the same bag. Usually bags break after being used for a long time. When I was a child I hated my bag, because I hated to go to school. Nowadays I know how valuable it is, every time I use it to do something different.

Extremely necessary in most assignments

Bags have proven its value. In most situations when you need to find that very important document which you haven’t seen for a long time, look into your bag carefully, it might be messy, but you will probably end up finding it. In most situations I needed a piece of paper which contained a very important idea or thought; I looked into my bag and tcharam…. I found it!

Books were the most valuable items stored in

Definitely, books are the most important thing I have ever carried in my bag. Books keep a lot of relevant information that need to be kept safely and the safest place to keep such thing is probably in your bag, because it is possible to check it at any time you want and you will probably not lose this valuable thing.

Beers were the second most valuable items carried in

As mom has always said, after fulfilling all your duties and obligations, it is time to have some fun! Nevertheless, it is no crime to keep the object of your leisure and fun in the same place the object of your knowledge was kept! So, if you have bought a lot of beers to party with some girls and friends, don’t push yourself too hard carrying it by hand, put in your bag!

It is useful to carry stuffs on the outside, such as a skate, jumper….

Sometimes you will realize that there is no time to spend trying to fit stuffs into your bag, put it on the outside, for example, it is really hard to put a skate board into your bag and sometimes you will need both hands to do something like shopping, so fit your skateboard in between your bag and back, you will save time and feel more comfortable. The same can be done if you are using a jumper and the weather starts to warm up!

To sum up, your bag is your life or even your best friend. Without your bag, you are nothing! Here is a good image of a useful bag!

What would you do if you were swimming or surfing on the line up and suddenly a Tsunami appeared?

Well, this would be very tragic! First day of creative interactivity class and I was asked if I would surf a tsunami in case it was possible. So, let me clarify some points here: if I knew there was a threat of tsunami somewhere I would go as far as possible from there and even having the whole structure necessary to surf one wave like that I would give this task to Laird Hamilton or Carlos Burle who are professional Big Riders! But if I was surfing a in the wrong place at the wrong time, there would be no alternative, I would have to surf the tsunami to survive. But while something like that doesn't happen I'd rather enjoy the funny waves in Burleigh or any other surf spot on the Gold Coast! Cheers!
